Day 38 and 39: Weekend Update
This picture will continue to be the header of my blog until I'm able to establish some better habits. I originally wrote "good habits" but I'm trying to stay away from negativity - so things are not "bad" vs "good". How about good vs better for positivity ! I think this daily reminder is helping as I've been able to start getting things done!
Today is Day 38 and it's been a week without Abby. It's ironic that I used to complain about having to get up early on the weekend to feed her ... yet today I was wide awake at 6:55 am. Also, my mornings are not that different. I still have to hustle to get food and water for the stray cats and that is more work than feeding my two girls was. Abby put more demands on me throughout the day but I really didn't mind it. What frustrated me was the times she would turn her nose up at the food or when she was making demands on me when work was super busy or was in the midst of something complicated. I regret the times I was impatient with her or yelled at her. I tend to focus on all the regrets and not remember all the good times. I hope she had a good life.
Minnie seems to be getting used to the change. She still prefers her perches on the dining room chair or the corner chair in the living room, but she sometimes perches on the back of the couch near me. She is also spending more time in my lap these days. I see her sometimes glance at the spot Abby used to occupy at the other end of the couch. She was used to Abby getting possessive when she came near me and I'm sure she's confused by her absence. Does she realize she died? I'll never know.
Breakfast was 120 calorie french toast with sugar free syrup and 2 eggs (160 calories) that I scrambled. For some reason I recently bought a dozen eggs and I need to use them up. One egg was for the extra Power Fuel you're supposed to have with the french toast and the other egg took the place of my usual yogurt, so the calories are in line with the plan. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt. Dinner was a cheddar & jalapeno burger with a few potato chips. Evening snack was Irish Soda bread.
Around 11 am I started thinking about heading to the grocery store. The rain had moved out and there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow, so today was the day to be out and about! Amazon is supposed to deliver the new cat bowls and plastic trays tomorrow and my new coffee maker on Monday. I can't wait! Juggling 5 or more plates is impossible, so I'm looking forward to retiring the china plates and using the plastic bowls and tray to transport them. With so many strays, it is better to give them each their own bowl. I ordered 2 trays so I can use one for myself!
Before I left for the grocery store (at almost 1:30), I resolved to not give in to the temptation to buy a bunch of junk like candy or ice cream. The only thing I would allow, if I found it, was some Irish Soda Bread! Yep - it's that time of the year! If I saw the ready for the oven corned beef I would grab one of those too. As it turned out, I bought the soda bread but forgot to look for the corned beef. That's ok - I will see if I can get one next weekend. Wegman's had no lettuce. I guess there is a shortage again! I was able to get 3 heads at Walmart. I bought 3 because they were small and lightweight. I usually buy heads that feel heavy but there were none so I'll probably need 3 to get through the week. I didn't buy a lot of food because I really didn't need much. At Wegman's I got radishes, celery, broccoli, brussel sprouts, feta cheese, an impulse buy of chicken dumplings, and an impulse buy of hamburger patties and onion rolls. I blame this on the YouTube video I watched of a guy making burgers this morning. I only bought 2 burgers so it's not the end of the world. I also bought 2 loafs of Irish Soda Bread. Next stop was Walmart where I found the lettuce. I bought a few other things and happened to notice they had peach and lavender colored sports bras! I got the last 3X in both colors! I fed Minnie when I got home as she'd only had breakfast. She wasn't looking to eat but she trotted right over to her bowl after she heard the can pop. She won't eat an entire can of food so I give the leftovers to the strays. Once she was fed I made myself a cup of coffee and had a hunk of soda bread. I love this time of year!
It rained the whole time I was out but I'm glad I shopped today. There is a winter storm warning from 7 pm tonight until 2 pm Monday. Doesn't sound like I'm going to get a lot of snow but you never know! I don't have to leave the house again until next weekend and I'm good with that! The thought of going to the casino crossed my mind very briefly and kept right on going. I'm in no hurry to give them any more of my hard earned money.
Day 39
I never published yesterday's post so I decided to just combine the weekend. I was able to sleep in until about 8:30 today and that was great! Once the cats were fed I relaxed on the couch watching YouTube video's and enjoying my coffee. My new Keurig should be here tomorrow! The cat bowls and trays were expected today.
Breakfast was some Irish Soda bread but late morning I had some Nutrisystem waffles with sugar free syrup. I didn't know it was nearly lunch time as I didn't realize the clocks moved ahead today!
Minnie turned her nose up at her canned food this morning and I haven't been waiting for her to give me an indication that she wants to eat. She seemed hungry around noon so I fed her, but she didn't eat much. She seems to eat more dry food than anything. When I fed her she was sitting on the end of the couch where Abby used to sit. After she ate she went back to her corner chair in the living room. We are both still trying to figure out our new normal.
This morning I changed the battery in the Ring doorbell camera and dropped the little screw that holds the cover. It took me forever to find the darn thing! Later, I knocked over my coffee. The other day I knocked over my water bottle twice. I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing it! In reality it's just carelessness. I switched my coffee to a travel mug with a lid that closes and I'm trying to be more careful with where I set my water bottle down.
I didn't realize today was the day the clocks moved ahead, so it was actually "7:30" when I got up. I guess I didn't actually get to sleep in! So much for the snow .. today would have been a much nicer day to grocery shop even though it's a bit colder! Snow is expected around 5 pm and temps are dipping to 30 tonight.
