It's A Daily Struggle

I've been up and down but I'm not giving up. I might have been close to rock bottom but I held on tight and started the climb out. I can't look back and I can't change the past, but I have full control of the future when it comes to my weight.

I managed to get the biggest part of the lawn mowed yesterday but the front and driveway side will have to wait for a dry day. We had rain overnight and more thunderstorms are in the forecast for this afternoon. Rain is in the forecast every day until Tuesday, but I hope that changes!

The cleanup of the demolished building went on all day yesterday and continued today. Something is going on in the pit from the auto shop. During demolition and during cleanup there were huge bursts of what looked like steam released. I'm wondering if it had something to do maybe with an auto lift and the pneumatics needed for that to operate. There was activity at the remaining apartment building and the Code Enforcement guy was in the building today, so I'm hoping they're closer to acquiring and demolishing that eyesore. It can't be rented out and it would probably cost a ton of money to bring it up to code, so the owner is a fool if she doesn't sell. The village could probably condemn it as unsafe and take it down anyway, especially now that the adjoining buildings are gone.

Health has been stable and my hand gets better every day. Typing is so much easier! I did get the all clear from the orthopedic doctor, so that was good news. I haven't gotten back on the treadmill yet and I'm giving myself until Monday 5-13 to make that happen. I have no trouble dressing myself and putting on my sneakers, so there is no excuse.

During lunch today I was able to get the rest of the lawn mowed! The sun was out all morning and it was pretty windy, so that helped dry the surface of the grass. The mower did clog twice but the grass was pretty thick in some areas on the driveway side of the house. I'm glad it's all done! Yesterday and today I spent the afternoon working out on the front porch since the sun warmed things up. We're still having cool nights so I still use the heat here and there.

Work is a bit busier only because I've spent a lot of time cleaning up someone else's mess. It's been super complicated but I think I'm through the worst of it and in the home stretch! It's ironic that this person is revered as a star (and has been for years), yet I've had to clean up their messes more than once. They ignore processes and do a half ass job, which causes more work and more frustration for the customer.

I'm glad I got the lawn finished yesterday as rain did move in around 4 pm. While I was mowing I had to move the cone I use to block the driveway a couple of times. One of the demolition crew then moved it out into the street, likely thinking it was theirs. I retrieved it after they quit for the day. I stashed it in my garage since my street is blocked off all day. I'll keep it there until they are done. Cleanup of the demolished building site is continuing but today National Grid & Spectrum were here and for some reason they dug up the ground in front of the apartment building. I guess they found whatever they were looking for as the hole was filled right back in. I'm thinking they were looking for a gas line and that both were here per an 811 request to locate ny buried utilities. The demo crew has been inside the building, so I'm hoping that means it is slated for demolition. The electric line was cut on Monday while National Grid was here, and they also removed the meter. Considering the crew told me Monday they were working on acquiring the building, I have to believe some sort of business is planning on building on the site. It's interesting to watch the excavator work, as he picks through the rubble to separate out anything that is metal for recycling. Concrete gets dropped into the pit in the center of the site and everything else is being loaded into huge dumpsters that are changed out several times a day. This work has been going on since Monday morning. Monday they worked until after 9 pm but they quit about 6:30 now. The site is large but it's deep and relatively narrow. I can't imagine what business could go in there. We already have 2 gas stations, a Dollar store, a McDonalds, a Dunkin, a Kinney's, a pizza shop and a chinese place. We could use a restaurant, bakery or bar, but I'm not sure I would want that right across the street! We had a little bar around the corner when we moved here, and our first winter some drunk was banging on our door in the middle of the night saying his car was stuck ... yet there were no cars in sight. The bar closed not longafter we moved in so I have no idea what it was like. A restaurant could bring a lot of traffic to my street. A bakery would be nice, but they'd be competing with Tops and Dunkin. One cool thing for this demo crew is their on site trailer has a porta potty in it! I've never seen that - you always see them stuck in the middle of a construction site and that really gives the workers no privacy. I wondered why I saw the crew going in and out of the trailer but then yesterday a truck came to "pump out" the unit. Pretty cool! There's a generator running constantly that I thought was for air conditioning, but I think it's more for power to run the air monitoring equipment.

Today's forecast indicated it would be mostly cloudy but there was nothing but sun by late morning. I was able to move out onto the porch to work around 10 am. It did cloudy in the late afternoon but the sun peeked back out around 5. Temps are still dipping into the high 40's, low 50's at night so I've been turning the heat on in the morning. It was 65 in the house this morning, which wasn't horrible but I'm used to 70!

With the building across the street gone I have a much nicer view of the main drag in the village. I imagine I'll have this view for a while, even if they plan to build something on the site. I'll also get more sun on the driveway side of the house, which will help keep mold off my new siding. Last night I noticed there might be some starting, so I plan to get out there and clean that off this weekend.
