Another Day 12 - Life Goes On
Today is day 7 of being unemployed, because holidays and weekends don't really count. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job, and hopefully I clinched that Monday ! For now, I consider this time off to be a vacation. I got paid for 12 vacation days and today would be day 7 of that.
I was awake before 5 am today and got up around 5:15. I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. I took a shower before heading downstairs to feed Minnie and have my first cup of coffee. I waited until 7 to feed the stray cats. Once that was done the entire day stretched out in front of me. I could see myself sitting on the couch watching YouTube all day and that's a habit I need to get out of. I had laundry to do and I wanted to wash the car, so those were the goals of the day.
I no longer feel desperate to apply for jobs. I'm going to continue my pause in hopes of landing the job at Accenture. If I don't get hired then I will obviously continue to search for something.
I e-signed all the documents associated with my new Edward Jones account today. I hope I made the right decision, as the fees to manage my money are higher. I will give it a year and see what return I've received on the investment and then go from there. This is someone Joe works with and has worked with for a long time, so I have to believe he's good at what he does and I will make more money. That is the goal ! I'm glad to have that done. There are still decisions to be made with my pension money, so I'm sure there will be further discussion.
After I got the laundry started I went out and washed the car. Boy, was it filthy ! It always look so nice after a wash and I'll be sad next time I have to drive in the rain, since it will get dirty. After I was done with the car I took a break to cool off and have a soda as it was 85 degrees and I worked up quite a sweat. Once I recovered it was time to start load number 4 of laundry and then have lunch, which was a burrito with salsa and 2 string cheese. I wanted salad but was too hungry to wait for that.
It's a good thing I am in good financial shape because July has a bunch of significant bills due. Village taxes (they were $543 last year), Water/Sewer $190, Car insurance $523 (6 months) and House insurance $697 (one year). If I haven't received my severance by the time they're all due I will have to move money from my savings to cover them.
Footnote on my neighbor: he passed away on March 3. He'd been in poor health and was living with his sister in Locke, NY. His house has been empty for a couple of years and I'm sure he thought he'd be able to go home one day. He was only 69 and that is really sad. He didn't get to enjoy retirement for very long,
