Another Day 21 through 25: Life Goes On
Today is day 16 of being unemployed, because holidays and weekends don't really count. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job, and it looks like that may happen soon. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. I got paid for 12 vacation days, so today is brought to you by my severance pay, whenever that shows up.
I've been sick for the past few days, which is why I haven't written. I believe I have covid as I have the symptoms: cough, fever, headache and as of yesterday I can't smell or taste anything. Saturday and Sunday were the worst days and I spent them both on the couch. Saturday I managed to get the cats fed and then collapsed on the couch and slept until 5 pm. I don't remember much between feeding the cats and waking up at 4:59, not knowing what day it was or if it was morning or night. I spent the rest of the day and night lying on the couch moaning and groaning. I took Ibuprofen to bring my fever down and Benadryl to dry up my sinuses. I started feeling better yesterday and was able to take a shower. I didn't have the strength to wash my hair so that is still on the agenda. I did stay up all day and felt stronger as the day went on. I had to force myself to eat as I wasn't really hungry. I slept in my bed last night and that felt wonderful, especially since we're having a heatwave and it was hot enough for the air conditioner AND the fan ! Today was even hotter and by 4 pm I was thinking about taking a shower and going upstairs to hang out in my room with the ac !
I'm glad I'm getting better as I hadn't taken the time to set up my medical insurance ! It's very frustrating as every time I tried to log on to the former employee/retiree site it didn't recognize my password and I had to reset it. I think I finally figured that out and was able to get in and set up a payment method for my medical. It's only costing me $75 a month and I'll have it until 11-30, so I can't complain. I don't have dental insurance so I need to figure out if I can get that as a retiree. Hopefully I will have a new job soon with dental benefits.
I applied to a billing specialist job today. It's one I saw before I was actually laid off and now it's reposted, so they must not have gotten enough qualified candidates. It's legal billing and since I have no experience they will probably send me a "thank but no thanks" email. I have to keep applying as there is no guarantee Accenture will hire me anytime soon.
