Another Day 37: Life Goes On
Holidays and weekends don't count, so I'm holding at 24 days unemployed. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and after losing out on the Accenture job (maybe!), I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. Yesterday marked 5 weeks without a job. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this is a hard adjustment.
I managed to get 3 loads of laundry done yesterday, so that is all caught up. I thought about going to the casino today but decided that if I go I'll go tomorrow or Tuesday.
After yesterday's gloomy rainy day it was nice to see blue skies and sunshine today ! It was a breezy day too, so I opened all the windows to let the fresh air blow through the house. Rich called me about going on a baseball trip to Altoona PA on August 4th, and I decided to go for it. It means leaving Minnie for about a day and a half, but she'll be fine. I will have to leave extra dry food for the strays. We'll leave after work Friday August 4 and come home Sunday afternoon August 6. I hope to be working by then, but my weekends should be free. I'll have to check the weather and make sure I leave some windows cracked. If there is no rain predicted I'll leave the porch window open, along with the windows that look out into the porch. I can also leave the upstairs windows open. In the downstairs I can leave the rest of the windows cracked with the security tab in place. I can also leave the kitchen windows open a bit. I don't want Minnie to be trapped in a super hot house with all the windows closed.
Shortly after 1 pm I booted myself off the couch to clear off the dining room table. I folded all the sheets I had washed and put those away. I also cleared away a lot of paperwork that needs to be filed and moved the boxes with my work computers to the kitchen. I'm going to drop them at the UPS store tomorrow. That will be the final chapter in my AT&T life. I kept my work id but tossed my RSA token. I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter, hopefully with Accenture !
After that was done I made my lunch (Nutrisystem pepperoni pizza melt) and filled up my 7 day vitamin box. I took all my vitamins with my lunch. I'm nearly out of selenium and I looked online to see if it was worth getting a new bottle. I decided not to as you can get the selenium you need just by eating 2 Brazil nuts a day. I'm going to do that, since it's a more natural way of getting it into your body. I went through all the bottles of supplements I have and had to throw away a full bottle of gummy vitamins that expired in 2022. I have plenty of all the vitamins I take, other than vitamin D. I ordered some via Amazon today, along with some cat food, treats and an ice cream scoop. The cat food I ordered is a Fancy Feast poultry and beef variety that Walmart never has. I only bought the treats because if you spent $60 on cat products you get a $15 credit. The treats were just over $10, so I still saved $5 on my overall order by buying the extra items. I only spent $90.
I haven't been keeping to my resolution to stop doom scrolling my phone and reading all the news sites. Yet again, I am disturbed by all the horrific stories that keep popping up. So, it's time to again STOP voraciously reading the news sites. I have 3 unread books and plenty of Reader's Digest that I could spend my time on. For now I will limit myself to Instagram.
I started buying Diet Coke a few weeks back and as of today I have 5 six packs lined up in the laundry room ! I only mention this as I read a little story about a woman who used to drink 4 cans a day but eventually gave it up. I limit myself to 1 bottle a day most of the time. I don't think I've ever drank 2 full bottles in the same day. Today I had a coke with my lunch so I had a Fresca later. I tried Diet Pepsi at Turning Stone recently and it was horrible. It was in a bottle so you can't say it was a bad fountain mix. Ugh - I don't know how anyone can drink that !
So tomorrow's goal is to get on the treadmill at least once per day. My goal for Monday July 8 is to get on the treadmill at least twice per day. My goal for Monday July 15 (if I'm still not working) is to get on the treadmill 3 times per day. These are reasonable goals as I plan to do the Road to Recovery series, where the workouts are less than 20 minutes each and the pace is relatively slow. I feel like it's a good starting point for me now.
I have a new blog all ready to start on Day One of my new job .. whatever that may be. I'm really hoping it's with Accenture and that it happens soon. I'm looking forward to putting all of my existing blogs behind me and starting fresh in every aspect of my life.
