Another Day 40: Life Goes On

Holidays and weekends don't count, so today marks 27 days unemployed. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and unless the Accenture job comes through, I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. This past Friday marked 5 weeks without a job. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this is a hard adjustment.

I don't expect to hear from Kurt again before next week as he mentioned he was taking some time off. That's why he wanted to meet with me Monday or Tuesday. So I'm going to enjoy the rest of the week and see what next week brings. I'm not planning on going hard towards applying to more jobs unless I see something good.

In a surprise, my new office tv was delivered today ! Walmart is definitely going all out to compete with Amazon. I was able to set the tv up pretty easily, so it is all ready to go. I want to put up the shades in my office before I move the bookshelf back into place, so that's likely going to be a Friday project.

I spent the morning watching YouTube and playing Cookie Jam (what else!?!?!?) but after lunch I took a shower. I don't know why it's such a struggle for me to shower every day. I feel so amazing afterward ! Clean hair, clean body and freshly moisturized face. I think I just need to get myself back into a routine and then it will become easy. I used to shower every night before bed. I think right now I stay up too late and then I'm too tired to even consider showering. I can't blame that on losing my job as this problem has been going on for a long time. A big problem is my long hair. I had been trying to wash it less but that leads to greasy hair and having to shampoo it twice to get it clean. I'm going to go back to shampooing more frequently. I noticed today that it was pretty easy to do one shampoo, light conditioner and then comb it out. If I don't have to scrub my head my hair doesn't tangle up so much and that makes it easier to comb it out. I'm also going to buy an "everyday" conditioner. I think something lighter would leave less residue on my hair. I'm going to just use less conditioner for now until the conditioner I have is gone, then I'll buy something lighter. I do want to get my hair cut, so I may think about doing that on Friday.

I'm working on making my vitamins part of my daily routine again. I took them on Sunday and I took some of them yesterday. I missed Monday. I finished yesterday's vitamins today and will make more of an effort to take them all tomorrow. I decided to stop taking selenium and will instead buy some brazil nuts and have a couple of those each day to get my selenium. I read online that you can take too much of this and it can be toxic, plus I like the idea of getting it via a food source.

Speaking of food, I need to make a Walmart run since I'm out of pizza crusts ! I also did my daily check on my bank account today. I like to keep track of my credit card and my bank account since fraud is so rampant these days. I also check my other accounts to ensure payments posted successfully. I put a lot of hard work into getting my finances in order but I still remember the days I was "afraid" to check my accounts since I was living paycheck to paycheck and had enormous credit card balances. For a long time I used credit cards to bridge the gap between what I earned and what I spent. I've mentioned it before but I never want to forget where I was 5 years ago when I thought I was going to lose my job. I was over 300 pounds (and approaching that again!) and had some significant credit card debt. I had already decided in late 2018 to change both of those things, so I'm glad I had the past 5 years to actually get the weight off and pay off my credit cards. I'm really upset with myself for gaining all the weight back. I haven't been putting any effort towards changing that. I say that as I sit here with a package of Biscoff cookies next to me and 1/2 gallon of maple walnut ice cream in the freezer. Ok - so I'm not buying any more cookies or ice cream or candy. I have to be done with that. I have 3 bottles of pizza sauce but I'm not buying any more of that either. I will finish what I have and then that's it. I might just have it once or twice a week instead of every single day. I have a TON of Nutrisystem dinners sitting there uneaten. My plan to equalize things there is to have dinners for lunch for a while. I will run out of breakfast items but I can buy waffles or breakfast sandwiches that meet the Nutrisystem guidelines. I'm delaying my next Nutrisystem order until I've made a significant reduction in the number of dinners I have.

I really need to reign myself in before I start a new job. If I get the Accenture job I will be super busy learning the ropes and getting started on a huge 5 year project, so I need to have my diet and exercise program sorted out. I also need to get my vitamins in so that I am healthier. I'll need to be up early enough each day to feed the cats and have breakfast before sitting down to work. I also need to be presentable and dressed since Kurt has a team call every Tuesday that likely uses video calling. He actually mentioned there are several calls, so I really need to look professional every day. This isn't going to be like AT&T where I could get away with never using video.

Just before 5 pm I headed out to Walmart and then remembered I needed to get gas, as I only had 1/4 tank. So I went to Delta Sonic first to gas up and then hopped back on 81 to go to Walmart in Central Square. I wasn't about to fight the traffic in Cicero. $95 later I was home with just the items on my list, except for a $2 night shirt that I couldn't resist. I have a bunch of them in different colors and patterns and I live in them. They're normally $7-10 so I couldn't pass up a $2 clearance. Seems like Walmart has sold all of their summer stuff and what is left is already on clearance. They actually have FALL stuff out already ! It's only July 3 ! I relaxed on the couch watching YouTube and just before 8 pm I threw a pizza in the oven. The outdoor temp was 88 per my car and I had to turn the fan on when I got home. I think I'll need the AC in my bedroom tonight. One thing I need to do is install the AC in my office, just in case I get that job. I'm going to be so disappointed if they refuse to grant the proximity exception and I can't be hired. I am pinning all my hopes on this job !

I forgot to mention in my blog that Monday night near 10 pm I was hungry and made a pizza. I cut it up on the counter and when I was transferring the foil sheet to a plate it came apart and the whole mess fell on the floor. My knife cut right through the foil ! Instead of falling apart I just made a new one, threw it in the oven and then cleaned up the mess. I'm just glad it wasn't my last pizza crust ! Sometimes I am just not as careful as I should be and bad things happen. The accident that caused my broken hand was stupid and I do the same thing all the time: I carry more than I can safely handle ! I drop things all the time when I do this, yet I keep doing it ! I wouldn't have fallen and broken my hand if the boot tray hadn't been out there, so that hazard was my own fault. Needless to say I moved the boot tray.
