Another Day 41: Life Goes On
Holidays and weekends don't count, so today marks 28 days unemployed. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and unless the Accenture job comes through, I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. Today marks 6 weeks without a job. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this is a hard adjustment.
I didn't write yesterday as my morning was busy and I got home from Kim's after 8 pm, so I was tired. For a change, it was relatively quiet in Mexico. In past years there's been a lot of random firework activity. My dogs used to bark like crazy when they heard them.
So yesterday was the 4th of July and Kim and Joe hosted the family for a cook out. We had burgers & dogs and I brought a macaroni salad. We also had chef salad and fruit salad. Snacks before dinner were the usual chips and a taco salad that Alyssa & Erin brought. Joe made oatmeal m&m cookies for dessert and they were very good ! My salad came out perfect, which was great considering I haven't made macaroni salad in years ! It is so much easier than potato salad and it's a lighter dish. Everyone liked it, so I will probably make it more often ! Barb took a big container home and Kim kept a big container, so I'd say they liked it ! I finished the leftovers today.
I got up around 8 today and once the cats were fed and I had breakfast it was back to my usual YouTube and Cookie Jam. Until the Accenture job is resolved, I'm not going to spend time applying for other jobs. I didn't want to spend the entire day vegging on the couch in my nightgown so I forced myself to get dressed and resolved to put up the blinds in my office. I bought them a long time ago and they've been sitting there gathering dust.
Tomorrow is the auction of Bill's house. I hope it goes to someone decent who plans to live in it. My ideal neighbor would be Doug, so I really hope he wins the auction. I have to wonder why the family didn't list it for sale with a realtor. I'm thinking they didn't want to have to deal with the hassle of home inspections. At auction the house is sold "as is" and no matter what problems you find after the sale, it's all on you to resolve. Doug already said it needs a new roof and the interior is really dated. With time and money it could be a beautiful home. I never thought my home would look the way it does. I can thank the fire for the interior and my mom and dad for the exterior. I can't claim credit for any of it. If I get the Accenture job and the pay is $100k or more I plan to have the front door, porch and basement stairs done.
