Another Day 49 through 51: Life Goes On

 

Holidays and weekends don't count, so today marks 34 days unemployed. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and unless the Accenture job comes through, I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this has been a difficult adjustment.

I didn't write this weekend as I was out on Saturday and not inspired yesterday. Saturday I went to Boscov's and Turning Stone with Kim. I bought a set of earrings and a ring at Boscov's. We stopped and had lunch at a place in Vernon called 3 Bastard's Brewing. Kim has been there before and I've been wanting to try it. It's a great place and at noon on a Saturday the place was deserted. I had a wonderful strawberry lemonade beer made by UFO Beer Company. If I wasn't driving I'd have had a second one ! We shared a bbq chicken flatbread pizza that was delicious. After lunch we headed over to Turning Stone. I used my $100 free play and lost about $140. Kim got 2 purses using the voucher I had received. It only cost me $8 in points. Kim did offer to pay me the $8 but I used casino points so why take her money ? It was a fun day ! Yesterday I vegged on the couch most of the day but I did take the time to clean the litter boxes and vacuum the rug in the laundry room. I am vacuuming the carpets every day right now as it appears I accidently brought fleas into the house, probably from the stray cats. I had to put flea stuff on Minnie (who was not happy) and brushed her some last night when she came to sit with me. I didn't see flea dirt on her back but I see it on the blanket she was laying on, so they're likely crawling around her belly. I feel so bad about bringing them in and having them infest her ! I'd like to give her a bath or brush her belly, but she would scratch me from head to toe if I tried. She barely tolerates brushing her back. She also desperately needs a nail trim, so that was a goal for today. I'm a little worried about her as she's been avoiding me, but I'm thinking it's because it's hot and she doesn't want to sit on my lap on a blanket. This morning she was snoozing on the lid of the upstairs toilet ! Yesterday she was hanging out on my desk in my office. She did come and sit with me for a short time last night.

I haven't opened my new tv yet, though I did take the carboard overwrap off it to ensure the manufacturer's box wasn't damaged. It wasn't, so I'm hopeful the tv is intact and will work fine. Being a 65" tv I'm not sure I want to try lifting it myself.

So as of today it's been 2 weeks since my last conversation with Kurt. I'm assuming no news is good news, and I'm avoiding the temptation to send him an email. I'm sure if he had news to share, either way, we would have reached out. I spent some time looking at LinkedIn jobs again and applied for two jobs. I need to keep applying since no one seems to want to hire me. If I don't get the Accenture job I don't know what I'm going to do. I may have no choice but to remain "retired". I think I could survive until I am 65 and eligible for Medicare, but I don't want to have to worry for the next 3 years. If I don't hear from him by next Monday I am going to reach out.

In shocking news, someone took a shot at Donald Trump on Saturday July 13. His right ear was grazed by a bullet to his right ear. They say that had he not turned his head just before the impact, he might have been killed. I have to say I wasn't surprised. This country has gone absolutely crazy. The sad thing is an innocent man WAS killed and 2 others were critically wounded. The 20 year old shooter was killed immediately by the Secret Service snipers and I can't even imagine the pain this has caused his family. He was a dorky looking kid and my immediate thought was he was bullied in school, which some former classmates confirmed. There are those who believe this event was staged (idiots) and there are those who believe this will ensure Mr Trump is elected president. I hope he is since the alternative is 81 year old Biden, who we all know is NOT running the country. I'm sure the Democrat's plan is to get him elected and then have him step aside and let the VP take over. We definitely don't want HER running this country ! I will be sure to get out there and cast my vote for Trump in November !

The past few days also saw the death of an odd number of celebrities: Richard Simmons, Dr. Ruth, Shannen Doherty, Shelly Duvall. A couple of other lesser known actors and a former NFL player also passed away suddenly. I'm glad Donald Trump wasn't added to this list ! Love him or hate him, there is no place for that type of violence in this country.

One day runs into another for me right now. I really wish the Accenture job would come through so that I can get back to work. This extended vacation is nice but I am BORED ! It's been hot too and being "at work" would mean sitting in my home office with the air conditioner on ! It's 85 right now (at nearly 2 pm) and we have a severe thunderstorm watch in place until 7 pm. Temps will be milder for the rest of the week, which will be a nice relief. For now I'm parked on the couch with a fan and managing.
