Another Day 56: Life Goes On

 

Holidays and weekends don't count, so I'm holding at 38 days unemployed. It's hard to believe it's been 8 weeks since my last day with AT&T. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and unless the Accenture job comes through, I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this has been a difficult adjustment. I really thought I'd have a new job by now, but in reality I haven't applied to that many jobs and I'm probably setting my salary expectations too high. I really, really, really want this Accenture job to come through !

I thought about mowing the lawn today, but before I got around to it Doug mowed it while he was mowing the house next door. With that task out of the way, I decided to go get gas and buy some groceries. I was super low on gas so I stopped at the Fastrack in Central Square and just got $15 worth. I probably could have made it (the car said I had 30 miles of fuel) but with my luck I was afraid I'd hit a traffic jam and end up running out of gas. It just wasn't worth the risk. From there I went to Delta Sonic and filled the tank. What a difference in the price .. $3.17 at Delta Sonic and $3.57 at Fastrack ! I should have got gas before I went to Lowes on Thursday. I could have driven to Delta Sonic, then went to Lowes in Cicero and then Wegman's and then Walmart. One trip would have accomplished a lot but I just wanted to get the windows taken care of. Oh well .. I'm good for over 400 miles now !

I bought things at the grocery store that I shouldn't have, but I'm going to try and exercise moderation. I have been dying for ice cream so I bought a half gallon. I plan to limit myself to ONE SCOOP. I also bought chip and dip. Then a bag of "fun size" Snickers & Twix, instead of the "sharing size" Twix. The goal is to eat ONE candy bar. Then a vanilla Bundt cake with strawberry icing. It's something simple and just what I was looking for. I also bought pizza stuff and hotdogs. I've been dying for those too ! I left about 2:45 and was home just before 5. Once I put everything away I sat down with a reasonable size piece of cake and a diet coke.
