Another Day 59: Life Goes On

Holidays and weekends don't count, so today marks 40 days unemployed. Considering I'm getting paid, am I really unemployed ? I guess so. It's going to continue to be a scary place until I have a job and unless the Accenture job comes through, I don't know when that's going to happen. For now, I consider this time off to be an extended vacation. I haven't been unemployed since 1985, so this has been a difficult adjustment. I really thought I'd have a new job by now, but in reality I haven't applied to that many jobs and I'm probably setting my salary expectations too high. I really, really, really want this Accenture job to come through ! I haven't heard back from Kurt. It's possible he was impacted by the Crowdstrike outage and may be still having trouble. He may also be trying to get a final answer before he reaches out. I won't be surprised if I don't end up getting the job, but I will be incredibly disappointed.

I still haven't conquered the treadmill, so that was again the goal today. Part of the problem is I need to get my shower schedule back on track. I don't like to put clean clothes on if I'm not freshly showered. I am going to try showering first thing in the morning right now, since I'm not working. To that end, shortly before 11 am I got that shower in ! Since I was dressed (in shorty pajamas), I went ahead and put the trash out. I missed it last week because they came before 9 am, which is not normal. I only had 1 bag of garbage but I was able to also get rid of a Nutrisystem cooler that has been hanging around in the garage. I made it just in time .. because the garbage truck showed up at 11:35 !

Breakfast today was a Jimmy Dean Delights breakfast sandwich and I was hungry after my shower so I had some chip & dip with the remains of a diet Coke that I didn't finish yesterday.

In political news, Trump is continuing to self-sabotage. If he loses the election, he will have no one to blame but himself. Also, the Secret Service Director resigned. This was no surprise and she is clearly the sacrificial lamb the Dems will hold up to help get Kamala elected.

The day started off cloudy but then the sun popped out and I thought it was going to be another hot and sunny day. Well, by 11 the sun had disappeared and there were some dark angry clouds to the west. Even though there was no rain in the forecast, it was raining by 11:30 ! It was nothing more than a cloud going over and the gentle rain did nothing more than get everything wet until the sun came back out. I doubt it even helped the farmers, but heavy rain is predicted for tomorrow around 8 am. I'm sure glad I replaced the window panes on the front porch and took the time to rearrange where the 2 panes of glass and screen are situated. I figured out that some of the problem I was having with opening and closing the windows was related to their position in the 3 tracks of the frame. The top glass needs to be in the deepest track, the bottom pane needs to be in the middle track and the screen needs to be in the front track. Once I figured that out it was easier to move them. One of these days I will check the other windows and make sure they're all seated correctly.

I spent some time this morning looking through job postings on LinkedIn and Glassdoor/Indeed and there was nothing new to apply for. My application to Infosys is still open, but I applied 6-27 and have heard nothing. I checked their openings and there was nothing new I was qualified for. I did get an email asking me to provide more info about the area of the business I was interested in, so I filled out the form they indicated and we'll see if that ever results in being contacted about a job. They don't seem to have any remote openings, so that may be an issue. Several times I've started to apply to a job I'd be perfect for with a company named "Sirva" but I stopped because they're too intrusive. They require a physical and a drug test. A physical would deem me obese (which is accurate) and I would pass a drug test with no issue, but I don't see that it's necessary for a remote job. One thing I'm doing is visiting the LinkedIn profiles of high level employees of telecom consulting firms. I'm hoping someone will be curious enough about my visit to check out my profile and maybe think about offering me a job ! I call that "quiet networking" .. lol ! I'm pretty sure that is how I came across Kurt. I visited his profile and he sent me a connection request.

I spent some time this evening deleting old pictures from Google Photos. I have a lot of junk in there and I only scratched the surface. Some of the photos were a sad reminder of the weight I lost and regained. Some were also a sad reminder of the loss of my mom. Some were nice reminders of what my house and yard looked like before and after the fire. Some were reminders of the loss of my dogs and cats. Some were reminders of the change in my job from going to the office every day, to reporting 2 times a week to a satellite office, to working from home for 4 years. Some were reminders of how my life has changed since Alex passed in 2014. All in all, even without a job my life is in a good place today.
